Cathy Payne and her farm

Cathy Payne works on a farm in Elberton, Ga., with her husband John Payne. The couple retired to a slower lifestyle in the country from the suburbs of Atlanta, Ga. The Payne’s raise sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens, and ducks, as well as grow various herbs and vegetables. Through her involvement with Athens Locally Grown, Cathy has been chosen to head up the, “Farmer for a Day,” program, which will give anyone an opportunity to work on a farm for a day, then consume a locally grown meal from the farm they work on. The first, “Farmer for a Day,” program is April 28, and more information can be found on Athens.locallygrown.net.

Plans for interview and two shooting opps next week !

Next week I will go to Broad River Pastures to interview Cathy Payne about the, “Farmer for a day,” program, which allows people to experience what typical day is like for a local farmer. Also, I will be shooting the pick up of goods ordered from Athens Locally Grown shoppers at Ben’s Bikes on Thursday, as well as the Farmer’s Market on Wednesday at Little Kings, in downtown Athens, Ga.

Thyme After Thyme

As I continue to explore local vendors that sell quality products and goods, I came across Thyme After Thyme. This nursery in Winterville, Ga., provides a large selection of fresh herbs, vegetables, fruits, and flowers.
